Great Eastern Sun is now introducing Genuine Powdered Wasabi (Wasabia japonica) to the North American market! Chinese farms, mainly in the mountainous southwestern province of Yunnan (South of the Clouds), have now perfected the cultivation of major crops of this rare, hard to grow rhizome, making large quantities of authentic Wasabia japonica available for the first time and, hence, opening up the world market to make real wasabi finally available to everyone. Powdered wasabi in Japan as well as in the rest of the world was always an ersatz blend of horseradish and mustard used as a cheap substitute. The Chinese have also developed unique drying techniques that allow real wasabi to be dried and ground into powder without damaging its delicate flavor profile, thereby making real wasabi available widely in convenient powdered form.
