Nori is the Japanese name for an edible red alga seaweed enjoyed for many hundreds of years in the Orient. The production of nori is a highly advanced form of agriculture, and the finished product is made by a process resembling paper making. The resulting paper-thin dried sheet is used as a wrap for sushi, and as a garnish in noodle preparations and soups. Nori is most typically toasted prior to consumption.
